Hi All,
I am Rajesh Pujari and this is my first blog. I am a consultant at Squats.in. I like nutrition and fitness and personally believe diet and nutrition should be a part of our lifestyle and not just a 6 month process.
A lot of time it is observed that Crash/Restrictive/Fad diets fail. And fail to the extent that person ends up almost gaining double the weight. Why? Why does this happen?
Let’s analyze this. Let’s first understand what diet means –
The sum of food that a person habitually eats. So technically whatever I eat everyday over a period of time becomes my diet.
Now let’s understand how we misunderstood it. The word diet is being related to low calorie, tasteless, less oily, baked/boiled food, and salads. Now with very little information and knowledge people embark on their weight loss journey. They start eating bland/boiled food and sustain this for a week. Since they see visible results it goes on for Week 2 and then week 3.
Now in week 4, the challenge begins. The craving demon sets in. You have been eating tasteless, boiled food for 3 weeks and now your body craves for something it has been eating regularly (Rice, Bread) and the binge eating saga begins. You don’t go back to your dieting ways anymore and start having regular food, food which you, your ancestors have been eating for years. Food our taste buds are accustomed to. So what was the issue? Wrong planning / long term sustainability was the culprit
Any diet plan you follow should be sustainable in the long run. Dieting does not mean you restrict yourself from having regular foods. It does not mean that you restrict yourself of certain foods to the point where you give in to the craving so bad that you HOG. Imagine a volcano which explodes after constant suppression I always suggest my clients to tell me what they prefer in their diet and customize their plans accordingly. This keeps them mentally sane and at the same time taking them one step closer to their goal and the best part is, they never feel they are being deprived of their favorite foods.
For any plan to be successful long term, sustainability is a key factor, and also if you have fun while executing the plan that’s a bonus which I make sure my clients have.
Build a healthy relation with your food, diets don’t have to be boring, after all it’s a life time commitment.
